If you want to get a good watch, you don't go to your grocery store. You go to a watch maker. So, if you want good pictures, hand the job to a professional - a photographer.
Why do global players spend a lot of money on images? Because they've learned that products sell better if they are wrapped neatly... Well then, start wrapping |your products| neatly and be critical about the images used on your site.
|Good images revalue| your complete website. And in most cases the rule is: less is more!
For personal sites, content and information related sites or a fun site, there might not be a budget for expensive imaging. In that case you might like to buy inexpensive images, use copy right free images - or - do it yourself. However, also here, quality is mostly appreciated.
One thing is important though: always check that your webdesigner makes use of the "alt" tag, cause this is food for the search engines. And we all do it to be seen ;-)
